One of the first jobs on your wedding prep to-do list is picking just the right reception venue. It’s important to think about things like guest capacity, lighting, seating, and parking. As you shop for a wedding reception venue in Nevada County, here are 7 things to think about as you narrow down your list:
Get tips on what to look for as you browse for a wedding reception venue in Nevada County

  1. Capacity
  2. Make sure that there’s enough room to accommodate your guest list. Items like tables, chairs, the band or DJ setup, and the dance floor can quickly fill a space. A great way to measure the size of a venue is to request photos from another wedding setup, with similar guest list size. At the Foothills, we can seat 280 guests for dinner and 450 in cocktail-style seating. Plus, our covered, heated patio will seat 40. If you’d like to stop by for a complimentary tour, just call us at 530-271-1000.

  3. Spaces for Mingling, Drinking, Eating, and Dancing
  4. As you tour venues in Nevada County, try to envision where your guests would eat, drink, dance, and mingle. The event venue should contain logical places for each activity. If the space is too small to divide into sections accordingly, your guests will probably feel crowded. Or, if the room is oddly-shaped, it may get in the way of your celebration’s flow. Keep an eye out for columns or obstacles in the space: are they going to block your guests’ views of the cake table or dance floor? There’s no need to worry about this at the Foothills, though. Our event venue is one large open ballroom-like space!

  5. Appearance
  6. Custom wedding space rental Nevada CountyConsider what your guests see when they walk into the venue. What’s the décor or architectural details? Fine rugs on the floor, pieces of art on the walls, or gorgeous chandeliers would each give your reception site extra pizazz.

  7. Lighting
  8. The right lighting can really make the space shine. If you’re having a daytime wedding, check whether the venue has enough windows. People probably don’t want to spend four hours in a dimly-lit room on a sunny day. If your wedding is taking place in the evening, ask the event venue if they can adjust the lighting for your big entrance, dinner, and dancing. We can adjust and control our environmentally-friendly LED lighting to match your wishes.

  9. Furnishings
  10. Do you have a color scheme in mind for your wedding? Take a look at the existing décor in event venues, to make sure it doesn’t clash. That’s not to say the venue has to be the same colors as your theme. Just make sure the carpet, walls, curtains, and chairs don’t conflict with your wedding theme or mood. The neutral tones used at the Foothills Event Center were chosen so that they don’t clash with any color scheme!

  11. Outlets

They’re discretely hidden with gold outlet covers, so your guests won’t even notice them. When you visit event venues in Nevada County, check to see that there’s plenty of power outlets, especially if the venue doesn’t usually host weddings.

  13. Parking
  14. Look to see that the venue is near a good parking lot, garage or empty street where guests can park.  If there isn’t enough parking, you might end up spending time and money to figure out how to transport your guests in vans or a shuttle bus. At the Foothills Event Center, we have free parking for up to 140 cars, including handicapped spots and a valet option.
