On April 6, the Foothills Event Center will be holding KARE Crisis Nursery's Jambalaya and Jazz Night! If you love jazz music, Jambalaya cuisine, and supporting local non-profits, then you’ll want to mark your calendar for Friday, April 6th! KARE Crisis Nursery will be holding their first-ever Jambalaya and Jazz Night at the Foothills Event Center from 5:30 to 9:30 pm on Friday, April 6. Proceeds will benefit the KARE Crisis Nursery, which for the past 11 years has been providing emergency care for young children in Nevada County whose families find themselves in difficult circumstances. “We get a large portion of our budget from these events. This in turn enables us to provide a safe shelter for any child in need in our county,” the non-profit organization says on Facebook.

There will be both live and silent auctions at the Jambalaya and Jazz Night, along with the famed KARE Crisis Nursery “Wheel of Fun.” Howard Levine, Grass Valley’s mayor, is going to be the evening’s MC. Former Nevada City mayor and prominent civic leader Paul Matson is slated to be the auctioneer.

There will be lots of entertainment at the Jambalaya and Jazz Night, including a youth jazz duo, Ludi Hinrichs, The Headliners, George Cutter and Friends, and the voices of Karen Woerner and Cassidy Joy. Guests will also be treated to a flamboyant dance performance by Heather and the Cabaret Dolls.

Jambalaya originates in Louisiana and contains meat and vegetables mixed with rice. Traditionally, the meat includes andouille sausage along with pork, chicken, crawfish, or shrimp. The vegetables usually consist of onion, celery, and green bell pepper.

Next week’s Jambalaya and Jazz Night isn’t the first fundraiser we’ve hosted for the KARE Crisis Nursery. Last March, KARE Crisis Nursery hosted a fun casino night/cioppino dinner fundraiser at the Foothills Event Center, which turned out to be a total success!

Tickets for the Jambalaya and Jazz Night fundraiser are $30. You can purchase tickets at The Book Seller, SPD in Nevada City, or on EventBrite.com. Call KARE Crisis Nursery at 530-265-0693 if you have any questions, or if you’d rather purchase tickets directly from them. And, you can show your support and spread the word by marking yourself as “going” on KARE Crisis Nursery’s Facebook event!
