Murder Mystery Dinner As you walk in, you’re greeted by a woman in a sparkling evening gown and an ornate Venetian mask who looks at you suspiciously, but you’re not sure why. Did the show already start? Do you have lipstick on your teeth? Or has she marked you as a cold, hardened killer?

The Foothills Event Center will be hosting a murder mystery dinner event called “Midnight at the Masquerade” on Saturday, October 27. Join us for a night of enchantment and fantasy!

We’ll open at 5:30 pm for cocktail hour, and serve dinner at 6:30. Our historic Nevada County bar will be serving wine and beer for guests who want to imbibe.

Today, the Foothills is giving you 5 tips to help you make the most of your first murder mystery dinner experience!

1. Dress the Part

Our murder mystery show theme is a masquerade ball, and we encourage you to dress the part and have fun! It will definitely help you have an immersive experience. Plus, at least one person from your table will become part of the cast.

2. Get Involved

Before the show starts, actors will mingle with the audience and go from table to table. As they mingle, the actors will select audience members to play a part in the mystery.

If you’re selected, you’ll get a summary of your character, how to accomplish your assigned objectives, and how to respond when the detective interrogates you. Your assigned objective might be something like confessing your love for another character or slipping someone a note. And here’s the fun part: you could be the killer, but you probably won’t know it!

3. Look for Clues and Investigate

Between dinner courses, observe the action taking place at the murder mystery dinner. Remember, it might take place anywhere in the room. During the meal itself is when your actual investigation will happen. This is the “interactive” part of the show, and we recommend that you get up and ask the actors questions. Share what you’ve learned with your group.

While you eat, cast members will join your table. This allows you to keep collecting information while enjoying your dinner.

4. Don’t Get Over-Confident

If you think you’ve solved the crime, look at the evidence again. It’s almost impossible to identify the killer early on. When you think you’ve figured it out, you will also need to share how, when, and why they’d commit the crime.

5. Remain Polite

Even though you’re encouraged to ask questions and get involved, basic dinner-party etiquette still applies. We want to give every guest the opportunity to ask questions. Avoid interrupting other guests: be a supporting player, not the star.

We want people to have fun and become a part of the show, so it’s okay if you randomly blurt something out. Just don’t try to drive the show to a certain point.

We hope that you’ll join us for an evening of high-class mystery dinner theater! If you have any questions, please call the Foothills Event Center at 530-271-1000.
