Rodney Crowell performs “Pancho and Lefty” at the Ryman Auditorium. photo by Erika Goldring Photography One of Americana’s most revered songwriters, Rodney Crowell is a two-time Grammy Award-winner. He’s had five #1 hits of his own and has written top-of-the-charts tunes for a wide array of artists. An icon among giants, singer-songwriter Rodney Crowell is appearing live in concert at the Foothills Event Center this Saturday night!

Saturday’s performance is part of The Center for the Art’s “OnTheGo” concert series. This series brings world-class musical talent to our community in venues throughout Nevada County until the grand reopening of their downtown venue.

Crowell has strong roots in country music, as evidenced by the chart-topping country songs he’s written for Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Waylon Jennings, and Keith Urban. His writing has a literary, universal quality, which led him to pen songs for artists as diverse as the Grateful Dead, Bob Seger, Etta James, John Denver, and Jimmy Buffett.

He’s part of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and also writes books. He’s penned an acclaimed memoir, Chinaberry Sidewalks, and co-wrote Kin: Songs by Mary Karr & Rodney Crowell with New York Times best-selling author Mary Karr. Says Karr, “Like Hank Williams or Townes Van Zandt or Miss Lucinda, he writes and croons with a poet’s economy and a well digger’s deep heart.”

In 2017, Crowell was honored with the prestigious Founder’s Award from ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers). Last year, he founded a record label, RC1. His latest album, Texas, was released earlier this year and includes collaborations with Willie Nelson, Ringo Starr, Lyle Lovett, Lee Ann Womack, Vince Gill, and Steve Earle.
