The Bridgeport Covered Bridge was built as a toll road in 1862. Horses and carriages would travel over the bridge on their way to or from the mines. During the time of the Gold Rush, the population grew so fast that the state of California needed to raise money to build new roads, and toll roads were the answer.

The bridge utilizes a combination truss and arch construction and is the longest single-span-covered bridge in the U.S. The Bridgeport Covered Bridge was designated a National Civil Engineering Landmark in 1970 and in 1971, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. But the bridge has had some hard times. In 1997 it was nearly washed away by floods, and by 2011, Bridgeport Covered Bridge was closed to both vehicles and pedestrians due to safety concerns. Its future was in doubt, but thanks to the South Yuba River State Park Association (SYRPA) Save Our Bridge Campaign, the repair and restoration of this historic bridge is underway.

Join us to enjoy painting the shake roof and the wooden sides of this 230-foot long bridge which is the longest single-span-covered bridge made of wood in the US. Your masterpiece will include the beautiful South Fork of the Yuba River as it flows beneath the bridge and the colorful mountains and foliage surrounding this crossing of the river.

So, come and explore your inner artist and create a wonderful 16×20 painting to hang in your home or give as a gift. Your class fee includes an apron, canvas, easel, paint brushes, and acrylic paint. Not a seasoned artist? Don’t worry; no painting experience is required. Our skilled instructor will guide you every step of the way.

Snacks and beverages will be available for purchase, subject to current COVID-19 restrictions. Collect your friends, colleagues, and family, and join in the fun! All levels of painters will enjoy this class, so round up your friends and get your tickets today.
