Woman writing down her top 5 New Year's goalsThe New Year that many of us have been waiting for is here. At the Foothills Event Center, we are preparing our venue for the events that will finally be able to take place later this year. We believe the world will get a handle on the COVID pandemic, and more than just the flowers be ready to bloom this Spring.

Our staff is excited about this New Year! It’s a tradition to set a few New Year’s resolutions before the ball drops on December 31, so we asked the staff at The Foothills Event Center what some of their resolutions are this year. In 2021, a renewed focus on health is top of mind for us all! Their resolutions are simple ones that you can get started on now and keep up all year.

Try one of these simple lifestyle edits each day, and you’ll not only get a healthier body and mind — you’ll feel fantastic and ready to make 2021 a much better year than 2020. These tips will calm you down, ease your stress, organize your home, and contribute to others.

Here are 5 of the easy resolutions they’ve shared:

Drink More Water

Water is great for your health, your skin and even helps your brain function better. We all know how important is to stay hydrated, but it’s especially important when you get less than six hours of sleep. You’re more likely to get dehydrated after a short night of sleep because a hormone that controls your body’s water conservation is released in later stages of sleep. So make sure to down some extra water on those days.

Go for a Walk

Breathing in that fresh air feels great, and it boosts your energy and immunity. If you’re short on time, try taking just 10 minutes to run up the stairs in your home or office.

Even if you can’t fit in a new fitness routine, keeping yourself moving by taking a simple walk around the neighborhood. According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, adults should spend as much time moving each day as possible. So some physical activity (even just walking!) is better than none.

Order from a Local Restaurant Once a Month

Sometimes food-related New Year’s resolutions aren’t about improving what you’re eating but about making what you eat matter. There are so many small, local restaurants in Nevada County that are struggling as the pandemic rages on. Getting takeout once a week from your favorite restaurants is a wonderful way to help them stay on their feet.

You won’t have to cook, and it will feel good to support your local businesses during this challenging time!

Organize a Closet a Month

Keeping your home neat and orderly without a deep clean every week can feel like a big task. Tackling one closet a month or a drawer once a week feels achievable. A bonus will be the items you find you can donate to someone who is in need.

Go through each item in your closet and ask yourself if it still fits and flatters. If you haven’t worn the item in the last six months, it should be purged or donated. You’ll be able to get ready faster each morning because you can find something to wear quickly and easily!

Compliment Someone Once a Day

Have you ever had a stranger come up to you and compliment your smile or your outfit? It makes your whole day brighter. You will find handing out those compliments feels as good for you as for others. Just keep your eyes open, and when you see someone doing something kind or see someone with a unique style – speak up and let them know you like it.

2020 was a stressful year for many. Keep your resolutions for 2021 easy, practical, and stress-free. Start looking ahead and stay positive.
